The Tetris Bookcase draws inspiration from the iconic shapes of the classic game, where players arrange falling blocks to complete lines. Wang translated this concept into a functional and aesthetically pleasing bookcase design. The bookcase is divided into small and large cabinets, with the small cabinets resembling Tetris blocks. Users can arrange these blocks in various shapes and colors within the larger cabinets, creating their own unique bookcase configuration.
What sets the Tetris Bookcase apart is its DIY nature. Users have the freedom to assemble and arrange the small cabinets according to their preferences, allowing for endless possibilities and personalization. Additionally, the small cabinets can be removed and used as individual storage boxes, adding versatility to the design.
The bookcase is made of aluminum alloy, a material known for its strength, lightness, and durability. This choice of material ensures that the bookcase is not only visually appealing but also functional and long-lasting. The aluminum alloy construction provides the necessary support and stability for the various configurations of the Tetris Bookcase.
Measuring at 120.6cm in length, 30.4cm in width, and 181.6cm in height, the Tetris Bookcase offers ample storage space for books, decorative items, and personal belongings. Its compact size makes it suitable for both small and large living spaces, adding a touch of creativity and style to any room.
During the assembly process, users can unleash their creativity and design their own patterns based on the Tetris features. The modular nature of the bookcase allows for easy customization and rearrangement, ensuring that the design can adapt to changing needs and preferences.
The Tetris Bookcase project was initiated in September 2021 in Milan and completed in February 2022. It was exhibited in China in February 2022, showcasing its innovative design and captivating appeal. The project faced challenges in achieving a high machining qualification rate due to the complexity of the internal structure, but the final result speaks to the dedication and expertise of the design team led by Zichen Liu and designer Qianzi Wang.
Fujun Wang's Tetris Bookcase has garnered recognition in the design world, receiving the Iron A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2022. This prestigious award acknowledges the bookcase's well-designed, practical, and innovative qualities, meeting professional and industrial requirements. The Tetris Bookcase stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world through fulfilling and positive design experiences.
